How Many Days Have We Been Together? Relationship Milestones by Day Count

Work out how many days you have been together, when you reach 100 days, 6 months, and 1,000 days, and how leap years and the first day change the count.

How many days have we been together?

Count the calendar days from the day your relationship started to today, without counting the start day itself. A couple who got together on 1 January 2026 reaches 100 days on 11 April 2026, one year on 1 January 2027, and 1,000 days on 27 September 2028. The free HeartSee anniversary calculator does the count for any date.

The table above uses that start date as a worked example. The dates were counted by hand and checked against the calculator. Swap in your own date to get yours, and keep the rule the same for every milestone so the numbers agree.

Do you count the first day as day 1?

There are two common conventions. One counts completed days, so the day after you got together is day 1. The other counts the day you are in, so the start date itself is day 1 and every number is one higher. The HeartSee anniversary calculator uses completed days.

You can see both on the Lock Screen in the picture above. The line next to the date reads 383 days together, and the timer below it reads 382 days and 6 hours. Both are right; they answer slightly different questions. If you celebrate day 100, decide which day 100 you mean.

  • Completed days: the start date is day 0, the next day is day 1.
  • Day you are in: the start date is day 1.
  • The difference is always exactly one day.

When exactly is a 6-month anniversary?

It falls on the same date six months later: a relationship that began on 15 March reaches six months on 15 September. In days, six months is between 181 and 184 days, because the months in between have different lengths. From 1 January it is 181 days; from 1 July it is 184.

Start dates late in the month are the awkward case. If you got together on the 29th, 30th, or 31st, some months have no matching date. Counters handle this differently, so pick a rule together, such as the last day of the month, and use day counts when you want an exact milestone.

What happens with leap years and 29 February?

A day count includes leap days automatically. A year that contains 29 February has 366 days, so two years from 1 January 2028 is 731 days, not 730.

If you got together on 29 February, your anniversary only exists every four years. In other years the HeartSee calculator shows the next anniversary on 1 March. Some couples prefer 28 February. Either works if you both know which one you are using.

Should you count from the first date or the day you became official?

There is no correct answer. Some couples count from the day they met, some from the first date, and some from the day they agreed to be together. Long-distance couples sometimes count from the first time they met in person.

Pick the date that means the most to both of you and use it everywhere: in a calculator, a shared calendar, or a days-together widget. Some couples keep two dates, one for the story and one for the count. A shared memory book is a good place to write down why each date matters.

How can you mark 100 days, 6 months, or 1,000 days?

Small and specific usually beats big and generic. A milestone is a reason to look back together, so the best ideas involve your own story rather than a standard gift.

If you are long distance, plan the milestone around a call you both have time for, or save it for the next visit and name the date now.

  • 100 days: write down the three moments you remember most so far and swap lists.
  • 6 months: choose one photo from each month and add a line about why it matters.
  • 1 year: revisit the place of your first date, or recreate it on a video call.
  • 500 days: answer the same set of questions you would have asked on day one.
  • 1,000 days: make a short list of plans for the next 1,000.

How do you keep the count on your iPhone?

A calculator answers the question once. If you want to see the number every day, a widget is easier. HeartSee, a private couples app for iPhone made by Sagiware, can show days together on the Lock Screen, as in the picture above, and has a Home Screen widget that counts the days to a date.

Both partners install HeartSee and pair with an invite code. It requires iOS 15.1 or later, and it is free to download with optional Premium subscriptions. It is iPhone only, so a couple with an Android phone between them will need a different app.

QUICK ANSWERS

Frequently asked questions

How do I work out how many days we have been together?

Count the calendar days from your start date to today, without counting the start date. The HeartSee anniversary calculator does this for any date and also shows the span in years, months, and days.

When is my 6-month anniversary?

On the same date six months after you got together, for example 15 September for a start on 15 March. That is 181 to 184 days, depending on which months are in between.

How long is 1,000 days?

A little under two years and nine months. From a start on 1 January 2026, day 1,000 is 27 September 2028, which is 2 years, 8 months, and 26 days.

Do leap years change the count?

Yes. A year that includes 29 February has 366 days, and a day count includes it automatically. Milestones measured in days can shift by one date compared with a non-leap year.

Why does another app show one more day than the calculator?

It probably counts the start date as day 1. The HeartSee calculator counts completed days, so the day after you got together is day 1. The difference is always exactly one.

Do time zones change the number of days?

Only around midnight. A counter on a phone moves to the next day at local midnight, so partners in different time zones can see different numbers for a few hours.
